5 DIY Cleaning Products with Thieves Household Cleaner

‘Most’ conventional cleaning products are filled with nasty, toxic ingredients that to be put frankly are just not good for you. It’s a shame because they are so easy to get and a lot of people are just not educated enough on the topic to know how bad they are and the impacts. There is something like 40,000 different synthetic chemicals in the average persons home. From your cleaning products, beauty products, skincare, toiletries, laundry detergents… The list is endless and unfortunately, due to the outdated and self regulated chemical industry, most of the time the health impacts can not be seen. Synthetic chemicals are made at an alarming rate, they are mixed with other chemicals for a range of purposes and really, the health impacts or more-so, the long term health impacts aren’t considered.

I always thought well surely that is mostly a problem is bigger countries with less knowledge of chemicals and their impacts, but unfortunately no. Australia is just as bad. The currently safety regulations are not written with our health in mind (wouldn’t be good for business would it…) which is why I believe that it is up to you to look at the products in your house and decide whether you are okay to have these chemicals around your family.

I wrote a whole post HERE on why I started my Non-Toxic journey.

When I joined Young Living, I bought the Healthy Home Starter Kit because to be completely honest I wasn’t super convinced about the oils at this time, however, after trying a lot of other ‘Natural’ cleaners and not having good results I thought, why not. Yes, its a bit of an investment however I had been researching Young Living and their products for around 3 years and the testimonies from the Thieves Household Cleaner really convinced me.

Not only was it an all in one product for cleaning the whole house, there were also so many DIY options to clean literally anything and it is completely non toxic! There are no harmful chemicals, air pollutants, fragrances or other endocrine disrupting nasties in this product.

How much does it cost?
If you buy the Healthy Home Starter Kit, it is $299AUD however the value of the products in this kit nearly $400AUD its a pretty good saving! The Thieves Cleaner as a member is $39.90AUD for 1 bottle of the concentrated cleaner and has around 60-65 capfuls of Thieves cleaner. This works out at around $1.50 per 500ml bottle of multi purpose cleaner which is the same if not cheaper than anything from the supermarket and it is completely non toxic!

I would be happy to write a post with ways that I dilute thieves products to make them go further as well! The Thieves line is so concentrated that the products can be diluted by 2 or 3 times just by a few simple steps 🙂

Multipurpose Cleaner

This multipurpose cleaner I use for literally everything. I clean the kitchen, bathroom, any surfaces, fabric, rugs.. everything. Before changing over to thieves I would have like 3 or 4+ different cleaners for different things around the house but with Thieves you just need the one.

You will need:

  • 500ml Glass Bottle
  • 1 Capful of Thieves Household Cleaner
    • Optional Essential Oils (I will sometimes add lemon or Purification)

That’s it!

Toilet Cleaner

  • Empty Thieves dish soap container or Dr Bronners Castile Soap (or any squeezy type bottle)
  • 1/2 Cup Unscented Castile Soap
  • 3 Capfuls Thieves Household Cleaner
  • 1/3 Cup Baking Soda
  • Water
    • Optional: 5 Drops Lemon & 5 Drops Purification Essential Oils

Put a squirt or two into the bowl and scrub away.

In a lazy pinch I have also just sprayed the toilet with thieves multipurpose cleaner and sprinkled baking soda, this works too!

Soft Surface Scrub

  • 2 Cups Baking Soda
  • 2 Capfuls Thieves Household Cleaner
  • 5 Drops Lemon EO, 5 Drops Grapefruit EO

In a large bowl mix together all the ingredients and sprinkle when needed. I also add a bit of water when I want it to be a bit easier to spread and clean everything with this from the bath to my white shoes!

Laundry Scent Booster & Softener

Powdered (Add into washing)

  • 1.5 Cups Epsom Salts
  • 1/2 Cup Baking Soda
  • 20-30 Drops Essential Oils

Liquid (add into softener cartridge in washing machine)

  • 1 Cup Filtered Water
  • 1/2 Cup White Vinegar
  • 3 Tablespoons Conditioner
  • 20 Drops Essential Oils of Choice (Purification, Lemon or Citrus Fresh are good)

Shake before use (I use the lid of the Laundry Soap as measurement)

Window Cleaner

  • 1/2 Capful Thieves Household Cleaner
  • 2 tsp White Vinegar
  • 2-3 drops Lemon EO
  • Fill with Water

Bonus – Air Freshener Sprays using Essential Oils

The easy answer? Turn on the diffuser… however some rooms don’t have a diffuser so a spray is good to keep on hand. The base recipe is: 1 Cup of water and 1 tsp witch hazel to 8-10 drops EO of choice.

Bathroom Spray

  • 6 Drops Eucalyptus Radiata
  • 4 Drops Peppermint

Upholstery Spray

  • 5 Drops Lemon
  • 5 Drops Lavender

I really do love Thieves Household cleaner and the Thieves line in general. It has made keeping our house clean without any chemicals so easy! I do have samples, so if anyone wants to try, let me know 🙂
